How to Correct a Patient Name in Siemens

Example: Case started before patient name was selected in Siemens system

1. Close Patient at end of case.

2. Print or find patient accession number (VNH or VNI) from Epic

3. Scroll to the PATIENT tab and scroll down to open BROWSER on Siemens workstation

4. Click and Open the Local Database file

5. Find and click on your patient/numbers

6. Scroll to EDIT in the Browser window

7. Scroll down to Correct

  • v If there is any protection on any of the images, you will need to REMOVE PROTECTION on those images before you can correct the Name.

8. Dialog box opens, click YES

9. Patient Information window opens.  From there you can only CORRECT the fields that are WHITE, the shaded gray fields cannot be changed.

10. Once you have completed all of the necessary changes, click OK. The screen will close.

  • Change Patient Last Name, Medical Record Number, Change First Name, Click on Accession number field to change that number, copy accession number to the Study ID field, click on and correct the Date of Birth and patient sex fields.
  • If you want to change a referring physician or select a name from a drop down that has ˄˄˄ in the name, you must remove the ˄ to complete the correction, or retype the name you want to use, or not add the name.  
  • Click on other tabs in the center of the screen to change other items

11. From the browser window, click on the Local Database file, find and click on the new file with the corrected patient’s name.

12. Go to the TRANSFER tab in the Browser window and scroll to EMIM-CATH or EMIM to send the images to the appropriate server.

13. Make sure to check your images in the software program they were sent to, McKesson (Cath Lab/EP) or Visage (IR).

  • To change performing Physician name: Each individual image must be corrected with the correct performing physician name and then resend images to the correct EMIM server.  

To Re-Open a Closed Patient Procedure

  • Example: Pt case opened, case didn’t happen, case closed in Siemens.  Patient procedure happens later in the same day.

1. On the Siemens workstation, scroll to the top of the screen and click on the PATIENT tab

2. Scroll down and open the Browser

3. Open the Local Database File

4. Find the patient file that was closed

5. Click on the Procedure file to the right of the patients name that you need to re-open

  • v If there is more than one procedure folder, double check the procedure date

6. Scroll to open the Patient tab at the top of the browser window

7. Scroll down and click on REGISTER

8. The Patient Information screen will open

9. All of the fields should be filled in appropriately.  

10. Make sure that the accession number is correct, if it is not, click on the cancel button to close the window. Find the current/correct order or exam and open the new order in the Scheduler file or open the correct procedure from the Local Database file instead.

11. If everything is correct and filled in correctly, click EXAM.

12. Your patients name will be on the screen and you can proceed with the procedure.
